The fellow I worked for when I arrived here. Decided to venture into the Renovation Business with me. This was my first "big fish" as a General Contractor. I low balled, knowing they'd want more done. I've been Reno'ing since I was a kid, seriously, a kid. Anyway, my new "partner" decided to side with the owners Dad. We parted ways on decent terms. But this baby, it was all me. Reno's, just are. A critical failure in the truss/rafter system was imminent. It was clear a day. Modifications by half wits. "Modifying neglect." Overloading the bottom chord (where the floor meets the ceiling). The system started pulling down the 70+ yr top fir rafters, which they were attached to, for support, to hold them up! Yeah... BC. The owner was good for a song and a dance. So, before long, he had every dog and pony show in there. 4 days, my crew and I had the old roof tore off, rebuilt and water tight again. While everyone was complaining, I was doing. The job turned out amazingly. With no credit to me of course. Funny how the ones in life paddling the boat, are always the ones getting whipped. Moreover.... when I'm still holding the wheel too. Just to see if I'd drop it....... ;-)
